Worker on construction site unloading container for waste from truckEarlier this year, the Department of Transportation released a report suggesting the trucking industry had only added a paltry 400 jobs since January.

For many in the business, that number was hard to swallow. Especially considering between December 2017 and December 2018 the industry added a total of 50,000. That’s a significant drop-off.

While these numbers seem bleak, the future is surprisingly bright. On July 5, the Department of Transportation released a second report with revised numbers. Here are some of the highlights.

  • During the second quarter of 2019, the for-hire trucking industry added 7,300 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis
  • Since the beginning of the year, the for-hire trucking industry added 11,700 jobs
  • In the month of June alone, the trucking industry saw an increase of 4,300 jobs
  • Since June of 2018, the for-hire trucking industry added 36,800 jobs

These numbers don’t solve all of the industry’s problems, but they’re certainly a step in the right direction.
